Self service fuel pump authorisation

Hello,

When will it become possible to use you Wirex card at self service fuel pumps? It would make life a lot easier.

Many thanks

Henry

Hello @henrylavery101

OUTDATED

For self-service fuel pumps, prepaid cards work (if Visa or Mastercard logo is present). The Wirex card should therefore work.

It is simply necessary to consider that the self-service fuel pump carries out an initial authorization of an amount between € 90-130 before allowing the distribution of fuel.

If you don’t have this amount on your card at the start, you won’t be able to use it even if you only plan to put in € 15.
It is a kind of deposit that allows the self-service fuel pump to deliver gasoline up to a maximum amount without worrying about a possible unpaid.

This is not specific to prepaid cards. The initial authorization is deducted from the amount available for all bank cards. But in the case of prepaid bank cards there is no overdraft or deferred debit, so this immediately impacts the balance available for 48 hours for other purchases.

I have not tried with my Wirex card, but friends have already experienced with other prepaid cards and it works.

Please feel free to try again by following these instructions. :+1:

UPDATE:

Why not try what is said above, but officially it is not yet supported.

Hi Henry, thank you for contacting us.

Unfortunately, self-service “pay-at-pump” terminals cannot accept the Wirex card yet. We are working to resolve this as fast as we can.
Of course, we will send you a notification once this feature is available.

Best regards!
