The 10 most influential people in crypto

Ever wondered which of your favourite celebs are closet crypto fans?

We decided to look into some of the most influential people in cryptocurrency. While some might be obvious (ahem, number 1), there might be a few you didn’t know about.

So, let’s see who made the list. In no particular order, we have:

1. Elon Musk

You knew that one was coming, didn’t you? These days, when you hear the word “crypto”, the soon-to-be Twitter owner springs to mind.

Why? Well, he hasn’t exactly been shy to share his opinion on certain tokens over the years - including infamous memecoin DOGE - and has caused huge market movements with just a Tweet or two.

Though Tesla no longer accepts BTC payments, the initial announcement that it planned to last year sent the token’s price soaring, with Musk himself investing $1.5 billion in it.

2. Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow is another - slightly more surprising - celebrity crypto advocate. Didn’t know she was a fan? It turns out she’s actually been promoting cryptocurrency for some years now.

Back in 2017, she became an advisor to blockchain startup, Abra, offering “valuable business advice” and opening up her network to them.

More recently, she’s invested in MoonPay, a fintech company providing payment services for crypto and NFTs.

3. Madonna

This one might come as a surprise, too. But it’s true - Madonna is a big crypto fan. She even teamed up with Facebook and Ripple last year to raise money for her Raising Malawi foundation. Ripple generously matched every dollar donated.

It’s recently been announced that she’s launching her own NFT collection too, together with well-known NFT artist, Beeple.

4. Paris Hilton

Noughties party girl Paris Hilton reportedly started investing in crypto after becoming friends with the Ethereum founders in 2016.

While she still buys crypto today, her attention has turned to NFTs. In 2019, she teamed up with designer Blake Kathryn to launch her own collection of NFTs, one of which sold for $1.1 million in ETH.

Next on the horizon for Paris are all things Metaverse - not only does she host parties in the virtual Paris World, she plans on releasing a line of “digital wearables” next. Watch this space.

5. Ashton Kutcher

Actor Ashton Kutcher started investing in bitcoin all the way back in 2012, much to his wife Mila Kunis’s dismay. Bet she feels silly now.

Ashton is also an XRP advocate - he once donated $4 million worth to Ellen DeGeneres’s wildlife charity on behalf of Ripple, which shows just how much he must believe in it.

6. Snoop Dogg

Snoop Dogg is such a Bitcoin supporter that he sold his own albums for 0.3 BTC back in 2013.

More recently, he’s become heavily involved in the NFT and Metaverse worlds, even going so far as to creating a virtual version of his California mansion to which he can invite his fans. The rapper’s interactive Metaverse is called “Snoopverse” and was created in collaboration with The Sandbox.

7. Bobby Ong

Onto a slightly different type of crypto fan - Bobby Ong co-founded the crypto data aggregation platform, Coingecko, in 2014. Since then, the site has seen major success - today, it tracks more than 12,000 assets and over 530 exchanges.

He notably made it to the Forbes 30 under 30 Asia list in 2019, as well.

8. Changpeng Zhao

Binance CEO and crypto billionaire Changing Zhao just had to make the list. Worth approximately $96 billion, he is apparently one of the richest self-made billionaires in the world. Which isn’t particularly surprising, considering he heads the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange by volume.

He’s been a BTC HODLer since 2014, but owns no other crypto.

9. Brian Armstrong

Another prominent figure in the crypto world is Coinbase Founder and CEO, Brian Armstrong. He owns a 19% stake in the company that is currently worth around $10.4 billion.

Not bad considering he founded the crypto exchange when BTC was worth just $6…

10. Vitalik Buterin

At just 28, Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin is the youngest crypto billionaire in the world. He sparked a revolution in the crypto industry, with Ethereum becoming the foundation for all things DeFi.

Vitalik’s wallet is not only full of ETH, however - he recently sold $4.3 million worth of dogecoin knock-offs, significantly impacting their prices.

And that’s the list! Any surprises in there?
